Reformer Pilates
Reformer Pilates is a low-impact, full-body workout designed to improve strength, flexibility, and control. Using a specialised reformer machine, sessions focus on precise, controlled movements that target deep stabilising muscles, helping to improve posture, reduce pain, and enhance overall movement quality.
What Is Reformer Pilates?
Reformer Pilates is a dynamic and highly effective form of exercise performed on a specialised machine called a Reformer. It uses a system of springs, pulleys, and a moving carriage to provide adjustable resistance, allowing for a full-body workout that builds strength, flexibility, balance, and control.
Originally developed by Joseph Pilates, this method focuses on controlled movements, proper alignment, and mindful breathing to improve both physical and mental wellbeing.
Our reformer Pilates sessions are 50 minutes long and designed to suit all abilities, from complete beginners to more advanced clients. We offer beginner, all-rounder, and advanced classes, allowing you to progress at your own pace in a supportive, structured environment.
With a range of class times available seven days a week, it’s easy to find a session that fits your schedule. We offer both flexible class packages and monthly memberships to suit your lifestyle.
Each class focuses on building strength, improving flexibility, and encouraging controlled, mindful movement to support your overall health and wellbeing.
How It Works
The Reformer machine consists of:
- A sliding carriage
- Adjustable springs for resistance
- Straps and handles for arms and legs
- A foot bar for pushing and support
- Exercises can be performed lying down, sitting, kneeling, or standing, making it incredibly versatile. Resistance can be increased or decreased, making it suitable for all fitness levels—from beginners to advanced practitioners.
Benefits of Reformer Pilates
1. Builds Strength Without Bulk
Reformer Pilates targets deep stabilising muscles, helping you develop long, lean muscle tone rather than bulk. It’s especially effective for core strength, which supports the entire body.
2. Improves Posture and Alignment
By strengthening postural muscles and increasing body awareness, Reformer Pilates helps correct imbalances caused by:
- Desk work
- Poor posture
- Repetitive movement patterns
3. Enhances Flexibility
The combination of resistance and stretching helps lengthen muscles safely, improving overall flexibility and reducing stiffness.
4. Supports Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation
Reformer Pilates is low-impact and controlled, making it ideal for:
- Recovering from injury
- Managing chronic pain
- Strengthening weak or unstable areas
- It’s often recommended alongside physiotherapy programs.
5. Strengthens the Core
Every movement in Reformer Pilates engages the core, including the deep abdominal and back muscles. A strong core:
- Improves balance
- Reduces back pain
- Enhances overall stability
6. Improves Balance and Coordination
The moving carriage challenges stability, forcing your body to engage multiple muscle groups simultaneously, improving coordination and control.
7. Low Impact, Joint-Friendly Exercise
Unlike high-impact workouts, Reformer Pilates is gentle on the joints, making it suitable for:
- All ages
- Beginners
- Those with joint concerns
8. Boosts Mind-Body Connection
Reformer Pilates emphasises controlled movement and breathing, helping you:
- Increase body awareness
- Reduce stress
- Improve focus and mental clarity
